Congregation Care and Outreach
Church family is very important to us at First Congregational Church. We strive to be aware of the needs of the overall church membership and friends as well as individual concerns and needs as they may arise. Community needs outside of the church are important to us and we do our best to help when able. The Board of Deacons send care packages twice a year to the church's college students and military service members. Scholarships are available for members and friends of the church for post-secondary education.
In the spring, ladies and friends of the church have gathered together to enjoy an afternoon of refreshments and entertainment to build friendships and enjoy the day.
Thursday Morning Breakfast
Join members and friends of the church for an hour of breakfast and fellowship each Thursday morning at 7:00 a.m. at State Street Café in downtown Geneseo. It is a relaxed way to start the day sharing in good conversation and food.
Sunday Morning Fellowship
Following Sunday morning worship services, a coffee hour is held in the church fellowship hall consisting of light refreshments, coffee and juice. This is a valuable time for members and visitors to greet each other and socialize.
Special services are scheduled throughout the year for all interested in attending. These may include an outdoor service in the summer, a special service to bless the animals, an open sharing by military veterans, a hymn-sing (singing favorite hymns by request), or any other service format initiated by the congregation, the Pastor and the Board of Deacons. On Christmas Eve there is a family service and traditional evening candlelight service.
Members and friends of the church are welcome to join in periodic day trips to local attractions and places of interest. Examples of past day trip destinations are Bishop Hill, Amana Colonies, Barnacopia, Mississippi River Lock & Dam, and Circa 21 Dinner Theater.
