Bible Study

September through June, most Wednesdays from 9:30 to 10:30 a group from First Presbyterian and First Congregational UCC gathers in the Pioneer Room (Fellowship Hall) of First Congregational UCC.  Most gatherings have a couple join via Zoom.  These studies are alternately led by the two pastors of each congregation.  Sometimes the group follows a theme like Parables, or takes on a topic like Mountain Top stories, or thinks more broadly like a recent study of Handel's Messiah.  Once in a while, the group will go on a Field Trip.

Gatherings are informal.

No one makes all of them.

All are welcome, even if you are coming because one is interested in the topic of that specific day.

Pub Theology/Lent in the Spirit of Medieval Monks

Periodically, a group gathers at the Geneseo Brewing Company, downtown Geneseo.  Participants share a favorite beverage, sometimes a bite to eat, and engage in a conversation often around a provocotive question.

Field Trips

The church owns a van, which was garaged throughout Covid-19.  The good news is that it has come out of hibernation and going on the road.  Recently, there was a field trip to the Figge Art museum in Davenport.  Plans are in the works to visit a Japanese Garden and another outing to an outdoor sculpture park.  Historically, the van has gone to plays and many other venues. Outings invariably include learning, food, and fellowship.  Costs are shared.  If resources are tight, talk to the pastor and you will be included.

Other Learning Experiences

From time to time, other learning events get planned.  An example would be Clock Training where we as a congregation had an opportunity to learn how to be better allies for the LGTBQIA+ community.

Children & Youth

Currently, most of our child oriented education is focused on including a message for children in worship, activity pizza boxes, and being the guests of honor at Messy Church, see messy-church
